The badge at the bottom right of the Console shows this computer's connection to InterScribe, for example Good · 57 ms. The number is how long a round trip takes from this computer to InterScribe and back.

What the words mean

  • Good: under 300 ms.
  • Fair: from 300 ms to under 800 ms.
  • Slow: from 800 ms to under 2,000 ms. The badge turns amber.
  • Poor: 2,000 ms or more. The badge turns red.

When InterScribe stops answering, the badge becomes Reconnecting… in amber. The session keeps running for listeners: this is almost always the network on this computer's side, and it usually comes back on its own. Meanwhile the floor text pauses and catches up when the link is back, and starting, ending and announcing wait for the link: their buttons stay on screen, disabled.

The badge shows Offline in red only when this computer's own microphone is the floor and has lost its connection too. Then nothing goes out from the room until the connection is back: check your Wi-Fi or cable.

When it turns amber or red

The badge measures this computer's network, not the Console and not the room's agent. When it turns amber or red:

  • If you can, connect this computer with a cable, or sit close to the router. A cable is the steadiest connection.
  • A phone hotspot can drop when the phone gets a call or moves. Use it only as a backup.
  • If the link drops three times within 15 minutes, the top bar shows Unstable. A cable, or moving closer to the router, usually fixes it.
  • Close downloads, video calls or uploads on this network.

The room's sound travels from the agent computer, which has its own connection. Check its state on the Agents tab: see Read the Agents page.
