Captions reach every language on their own: a channel appears in the Console when a listener picks its language. A voice is what lets listeners hear that language instead of only reading it. This page covers the voice controls in the Console's channels list.

What each channel row says

The channels list groups the languages by who speaks them, and each row carries a short tag: FLOOR, AI VOICE + CC, HUMAN BOOTH or CC ONLY.

  • Floor: the room's own audio, transcribed.
  • AI voice + captions: translated and spoken by InterScribe.
  • Human booth: a person interprets this channel. waiting means nobody has taken it from the booth yet.
  • Captions only: listeners read its captions. Give it a voice from the menu if they need to hear it.

An AI voice can show standby: it starts when a listener turns on audio, and stops 30 s after the last one leaves. starting means people just turned on the audio and the voice takes a few seconds to start.

Give a language a voice

  1. STEP 1Open the voice dialog
Select Add a voice at the foot of the channels list, and pick the language.
  2. STEP 2Choose who listeners hear
Choose the AI voice or a human interpreter, then confirm.

You can also open a channel's ⋯ menu and select Turn on the AI voice for the language, or Assign a human interpreter to it. A choice your plan has no room for stays in the menu, greyed out, with the reason under it.

Stop, pause or restart a voice

Each channel's ⋯ menu holds the rarer actions:

  • Stop the AI voice on the language: it stops speaking straight away and keeps its captions. The channel becomes captions only until someone turns the voice on again.
  • Pause the language (while live): only that language stops. Resume it to bring it back from the live edge: what was said while it was paused is not sent.
  • Restart this channel (AI voice channels only): listeners on it hear nothing for a few seconds, captions resume from the live edge, and the backlog is discarded, not caught up.

To pause every AI voice at once, select AI voices in the bar at the bottom and confirm. Captions carry on in every language. The voices stay quiet until you select Resume AI voices, and they pick up from the live edge.

When a voice falls behind or goes down

The lag next to each channel is how long it takes to follow the floor's newest caption. A few seconds behind is normal on every channel. The row calls a channel behind from 3 s and down from 15 s. If an AI voice channel's lag keeps growing, restart that channel from its menu.

voice down means people are on the audio but the voice is not running. Restart the channel from its menu.

Reconnecting with a countdown means the voice is retrying by itself. Select Retry now to try at once.
