In the Booth, your microphone is what your listeners hear, and your headphones carry the floor to you. This page helps you set both up and check them before you go on air.

When you join

On the Sound step of joining, select Enable microphone and check sound and allow the microphone when your browser asks. Choose your Microphone and your Headphones, then say something and watch Your level. The check is private, and you enter the booth muted.

Tick Alert me when someone needs me to get a tone and a mark on the browser tab when a colleague asks for your channel, offers you one, or writes to you.

Check or change your devices during the session

  1. STEP 1Open the sound sheet
Under Your sound, select Microphone and headphones.
  2. STEP 2Check your microphone

Under Microphone — what listeners hear, say something at the volume you will interpret at. If the meter never moves, your microphone is not the one selected. This test hears you even while your microphone is closed, and nobody else hears it.

  3. STEP 3Choose your headphones
Under Headphones — what you hear, choose the device you are wearing.

Changing a device does not close your microphone. While you are live, changing the microphone cuts you off for a moment.

Choose your microphone type

In the same sheet, Microphone type is set to Headset: echo and noise are cleaned up. Choose Sound desk if your microphone comes from a sound desk that already processes the sound, and it is sent exactly as the desk sends it. More settings lets you switch Echo cancellation, Noise suppression and Automatic volume one by one, and Extra noise filter adds a stronger filter for a headset. While you are live, changing the type cuts you off for a moment. See Hear yourself while you speak.

Choose what you listen to

Select Listening to in the bar to open What you are listening to. Floor is what the room hears, direct from the speaker, and is the default. Under Another booth — relay, you can interpret from a colleague's channel instead of the floor. Only you hear this choice: listeners on your channel keep hearing you.

The Booth does not play your own voice back to you. To hear yourself, see Hear yourself while you speak.

How this computer is connected

The Booth asks once how this computer is connected: Cable, Wi-Fi, Phone hotspot, Mobile data or Not sure. A cable is the steadiest. A phone hotspot can drop when the phone gets a call or moves, so use it only as a backup. You can change the answer later.
