InterScribe can listen to a Zoom meeting and give your audience live captions and translation in their own language. This page shows how to add the InterScribe app to your Zoom account, how to use it in a meeting, and how to remove it, including what happens to your data.

Zoom meeting audio · Early access

Before you start

  • A role in your workspace that can connect apps and plan events. See What you need.
  • A Zoom account that hosts or attends your meetings. For someone else's meeting, any Zoom account works, even a free one.
  • Local recording turned on for that account in Zoom: Settings, then Recording, then Local recording. An admin may need to allow it.

Add InterScribe to Zoom

  1. STEP 1Open Meeting apps
In the Portal sidebar, under SOURCES, select Meeting apps, then open Zoom.
  2. STEP 2Connect
Select Connect Zoom. To add another account, select Connect another Zoom account.
  3. STEP 3Approve at Zoom

Zoom asks you to approve the permissions below. Select Allow in Zoom. You return to InterScribe, and the account shows Connected.

InterScribe asks Zoom for these permissions:

  • See your list of meetings, so your meetings appear on Sessions.
  • Read one meeting's details: its time, passcode and every occurrence of a recurring meeting.
  • Read your name and email, to label the account.
  • Get a recording token for your meetings, so the host is not asked to Allow in meetings this account owns.
  • Get a token to join on your behalf, which the InterScribe bot uses to join the meeting.
  • Create Zoom meetings for you, so you can select Schedule a Zoom meeting from InterScribe. Only that action needs it.

If a permission is missing, the account shows Needs a fix. Select Reconnect to approve again.

Use it in a meeting

  1. STEP 1Pick the meeting

Open Sessions. Meetings from your connected accounts are listed; new meetings appear within 5 minutes. For a meeting that is not listed, such as one another account hosts, select Add a meeting link and paste the Join link from the invitation, or type the Zoom meeting ID.

  2. STEP 2Enable translation

Select Enable translation. InterScribe creates a session for the meeting, or links the meeting to a session you already have. Choose the language spoken and the languages to translate to.

  3. STEP 3Start translation

Select Start translation, or choose When this meeting goes live so it starts by itself. The bot named InterScribe Live Translation joins the meeting.

  4. STEP 4Share the audience link

The bot posts the audience link in the meeting chat. Your audience opens the session link to follow captions and translation, and AI Voice when your plan allows it.

What to expect in Zoom:

  • If the meeting has not started, the status shows Waiting for the host or Waiting for the meeting. InterScribe joins within 30 seconds of the meeting starting.
  • Zoom shows everyone its recording notice, and InterScribe Live Translation appears in the participant list.
  • For a meeting another account hosts, Zoom asks its host to press Allow each time the session goes live. They have a minute.
  • Keep the connected Zoom account in the meeting. If it leaves, Zoom removes the bot.
  • Translation goes one way. Translations are not sent back into Zoom.

To stop, select Stop translation. If the bot is dropped from a meeting that is still running, open the session's Console and select Rejoin the meeting on the Zoom source card.

Remove InterScribe from Zoom

You can disconnect in InterScribe, remove the app in Zoom, or both.

Disconnect in InterScribe

  1. STEP 1Open the account
Go to Meeting apps, open Zoom, and find the account.
  2. STEP 2Disconnect
Select Disconnect and confirm. If a meeting is translating, the button reads Stop translation and disconnect.

When you disconnect:

  • Translation that uses the account stops.
  • InterScribe revokes its access at Zoom, unless the same Zoom user is still connected in another workspace.
  • InterScribe deletes the account from your workspace: its stored access credentials, Zoom user ID, name and email, and the Zoom meetings it listed, with their links to sessions and their run records. A link from another account's meeting stays, stopped and no longer linked to this account.
  • Your sessions stay, with their captions and translations. To use the account again, connect it again.
  • Your workspace's log keeps who connected the account and who disconnected it.
  • Other connected accounts are not affected.

Remove the app in Zoom

  1. STEP 1Open Zoom App Marketplace
Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace.
  2. STEP 2Find the app
    Select Manage, then Installed apps.
  3. STEP 3Remove it
    Find InterScribe and select Remove.

When you remove the app, Zoom tells InterScribe. InterScribe then stops translation in progress and, in every InterScribe workspace, deletes:

  • the Zoom connection for your Zoom user, with its stored access credentials, Zoom user ID, name and email, and
  • the Zoom meetings InterScribe listed for you, with their links to sessions and their run records. A link from another account's session to one of your meetings stays, stopped and no longer linked.

InterScribe keeps the sessions you created, with their captions and translations. They are your content and stay under your workspace's retention settings until you delete them. To delete a session, see Sessions.

What InterScribe stores from Zoom

  • For each connected account: the Zoom user ID, display name, email, the permissions you granted, and the access and refresh credentials, which are encrypted.
  • For each meeting: its number, occurrence, host ID, title, start and end times, and whether it repeats.
  • For a pasted meeting link: the passcode, only if the link or you provide one. It is encrypted and deleted with the session.
  • The meeting passcode Zoom returns for a listed meeting, the recording token and the join tokens are used for one join and not stored.

Audio from the meeting is turned into captions and translations for the session. It is recorded only if the session's own recording setting is on. See the privacy policy for how long captions are kept.
