  • 🎙️ Why Audio Matters

High‑quality audio is the backbone of any successful multilingual event. InterScribe uses live audio streams to generate real-time captions and translations — so the clearer your input, the better your output.

To support different technical setups, security levels, and user roles, InterScribe offers several flexible ways to bring audio into your sessions.

This overview compares the available tools so you can choose the best option for your setup.

    🧭 Quick Comparison

Method Best For Install Required? Dashboard Access Persistent Streaming Recommended Use
Streamer Dashboard Quick setup with browser mic/mixer No Full access ❌ (tab closes = stop) Hosts, AV teams, small events
Interpreter / Monitor Dashboards Language streaming or QA monitoring No Limited/Read-only ❌ (tab closes = stop) Interpreters and supervisors
Web Agent Restricted-use devices or public kiosks No No ❌ (tab closes = stop) Guest laptops, secure streaming setups
Desktop Agent Reliable 24/7 streaming with auto-reconnect ✅ Mac/Win/Linux No AV racks, booths, permanent installations
Mobile Browser Phones and tablets on the go No Optional ❌ (depends on device) Interpreters in the field

🔐 Pro Tip: Use a Web Agent key when you want someone to stream audio without giving them access to your dashboard. Keys can be revoked or regenerated anytime.

    🧩 AV Channels Explained

AV Channels are virtual audio pipelines that route audio into specific sessions. They are required when using:

    • Desktop Agent
    • Web Agent
    • RTMP/SRT/WHIP Ingresses

Each AV Channel acts like a named input (e.g. Main Hall, Default, AV Channel 1) that connects:

→ an audio source (agent or ingress) → to a session (where captions and translations happen)

🧠 Remember: The Streamer Dashboard can stream directly or infer its assigned AV Channel. But all other agents (Web, Desktop, Ingress) must be explicitly linked to an AV Channel to function.

    🧩 How They Fit Together

    Streamer Dashboard

    • Full browser-based panel for hosts and AV leads.
    • Offers real-time control over input devices, captions, translations, and session playback.
    • Can stream directly or use an AV Channel if specified.

    Interpreter Dashboard

    • Tailored for interpreters: select a session and language, and stream voice input.
    • Lacks event management controls to keep things simple.

    Monitor Mode

    • Read-only view for QA or supervisors to observe captions, languages, and agent activity.
    • No streaming or editing access.

    Web Agent

    • Minimal interface: enter a one-time key, select audio input, and stream.
    • No dashboard access, ideal for secure environments or one-off interpreters.
    • Requires an AV Channel to function.

    Desktop Agent

    • Installable app that streams audio persistently in the background.
    • Supports auto-start and auto-reconnect.
    • Perfect for dedicated setups in churches, conference rooms, and studios.
    • Requires an AV Channel to operate.

    Mobile Audio Streaming

    • Use the Streamer or Web Agent via Safari/Chrome on phones and tablets.
    • Great for remote or on-the-go interpreters.
    • AV Channel not required when using the Streamer Dashboard in mobile browser.

    ✅ Best Practices

    • 🎯 Use Streamer Dashboard for fast in-browser control and low-latency audio.
    • 🖥️ Deploy Desktop Agent for long-running or production-quality setups.
    • 🧷 Assign AV Channels whenever using agents or Ingresses that aren’t the Streamer Dashboard.
    • 🔐 Use Web Agent when you need to lock down dashboard access.
    • 📱 Use mobile streaming only for short sessions or temporary setups.
    • 🧪 Test your audio routing and levels before the event, including AV Channel mapping.
